Dear Friends,
When I cobbled “Agribusiness Matters” as a headline of this newsletter way back in 2017 when I had joined an agritech startup as a product manager, I had no freakin clue how lucky I was.
As an “outsider” who was wet behind the ears in the domain of agriculture, I decided to write for selfish reasons: I wanted to make sure that what I was discovering through my software experiments, client interactions, field visits, mentoring conversations were real.
Didn’t humans invent writing as a tool to narrow down their knowledge, while they were busy expanding their ignorance elsewhere?
I lapped up the headline, “Agribusiness Matters” because it created a nice twin effect of stating the obvious (or so I thought) and setting expectations about what was in store. It took me several years to realize how serendipitous the title was when I discovered that the development discourse since the eighties had long been underplaying the role of agriculture in economic development.
